All of the teachers at Shiyan Elementary schools are well-qualified and very hard workers. Since we live relatively close to Kunming, many teachers commute from their home in the city everyday. Other teachers live in apartment complexes and are neighbors with many of their students. These teachers still choose to stay and teach at Shiyan Elementary, despite the fact that the salaries and standard of living is much lower than within Kunming City.

 

所有在经开区的老师都是非常有教养和努力的工人。由于我们住得离昆明市比较近，许多教师每天往返于实验和昆明市。这些教师仍然选择呆在实验小学教书，尽管工资和生活水平远低于在昆明市。

Shiyan Elementary school is in a much more industrial area than the other two schools. Most of the buildings around the school are factories with built-in dorms. A number of the students live in these dorms, while their parents work in the factories. Like Gao Po, many of the families in the areas were also farmers, until the government purchased their land and moved into the area.

 

实验小学是在一个工业区。大多数学校周围的建筑都带有内置的宿舍工厂。许多学生住在这些宿舍里，而他们的父母在工厂工作。像高坡，在该地区的家庭也有很多曾经是农民，，但是现在他们的徒弟被政府征收进行开发建设，所以他们搬到了高坡以及类似于高坡的社区。

Shiyan Elementary is the youngest school of the three, and is only 5 years old. Originally called Guolin Elementray School, the school changed its name to Shiyan (meaning Experimental) around 3 years ago to reflect it's new, modern approach to education. Since it is such a young school, it is still under a lot of construction, with rooms being abuilt and renovated every day. Although there are many resources and rooms, such as a library and interactive playrooms, most of these rooms are not available to the students and have been locked up and under construction for years.

 

十堰小学是三个学校中年龄最小的，并且只有5岁。原名本来是果林小学，可是三年前学校改名为实验，以反映学校新的，现代的方法来教育。因为它是这样一个年轻的学校，它仍然有很大的施工和装修。虽然有许多资源和房间，如图书馆和互动游戏室，这些房间都没有提供给学生和已锁定，在多年的建设。

Since Shiyan Elementary is such a young school, there are only 5 grades rather than the standard 6 grades for elementary school. There are 17 classes overall, with a total of 660 students in the school. Like many other schools in Yunnan, the students of Shiyan also come from diverse backgrounds and various minorities. One of the major challenges facing these students is the lack of education in the area. While the parents may understand the value of education, many of them have only graduated from elementary school or middle school at the most. So, they don't fully understand how to help their children with their studies and push them towards higher education.

 

由于实验小学是一所年轻的学校，只有5个等级，而不是标准的6年级小学。有17个班，共有660名学生。像其他许多在云南的学校，实验的学生也来自不同的背景和不同的民族。这些学生面临的主要挑战是在教育领域缺乏。虽然父母可以理解教育的价值，他们中的许多人只有小学或初中毕业。所以，他们并不完全了解如何帮助他们孩子的学习与他们也不知道怎么推动他们孩子走向高等教育。
